Our Dancing Turtle Team

Please meet your Coaches for this breaking season! We are so grateful to our youth coaches who uphold strong values of mentorship as well as the love of dance! Here at Dancing Turtle we feel that this dance is all about our youth and learning from one another to build skills.

Coach Check-It

Hi! I am Coach Check-It. I am the founder and co-owner of The Dancing Turtle. I have been dancing for 30 years and have been teaching the Art of Breaking for 23 years. Our studio was established in 2015. We teach the art of breaking but beyond that we are building community, friendship, confidence and values that will positively impact young people in their lives! We know it takes a village to support our children and spaces like the one at Dancing Turtle are highly needed for our youth.

Coach Check-It teaches advanced level classes & oversees all DT Coaches!

Coach Soula

Hi! I am so excited to teach the Tiny Turtles how to break! I have been an early childhood educator for 20 years working in a variety of settings. My passion is to teach children how to move, find joy and self-confidence through the amazing art of breaking! I have been dancing since I could walk but officially started breaking in 2001! I love this dance because it allows me to be myself and keeps me active! I also could not imagine being a part of any other community that holds me so much and feels like family.  I am co-owner and handle all the registration and logistics here at Dancing Turtle!

Coach Soula teaches the 11 am and 12 pm Tiny Turtle classes!

Coach Glyder

Hi, my name is Nick, but many know me as Coach Glyder. I am a freshman (classified as a sophomore) at New Mexico Tech, studying mechanical engineering and excited materials. I have been breaking for ten years and enjoying other styles for twelve years. I dance because it is a spiritual, physical, and emotional outlet, but I also dance to give back to the community that made me who I am today. Some of my hobbies outside of dancing include building, programming, and driving robots along with experimenting with different art styles.

Coach Glyder teaches the 9 am class, 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm classes!

Coach Rain

Hi! My name is Lluvia, I am in the 11th grade. I’ve been dancing for 8 years but I also do many different forms of visual art and write poetry. Despite my dispersed focus upon my hobbies the reason I break is because it makes me feel free. It allows me to release the energy that is constantly pulsing through me in an amazing way. The breaking community is also just so uplifting it brings my spirits up on hard days, something about the amount of work it takes makes me hungry, I love breaking!

Coach Rain teaches the 12 pm and  1 pm classes!

Coach Ghedra

Hi, my name is Liam, but when I am breakdancing I go by B-boy Ghedra. I am in 8th grade. I love self expression through clothes/style. I also enjoy dancing to many different types of music. The reason I have been breakdancing for 9 years is because while I am dancing I can express my emotions through movements and I can help others in their dance by giving advice or learning from them!

Coach Ghedra coaches the 9am and 10 am classes!

Coach Mick

Hi, I am Makayla! I am a sophomore at Highland High School, and I have been breaking for about 5 years. Some things I like to do are sports, cooking, reading, and more. I love breaking because of how fun and challenging it is! I break because although the moves you learn might only be used in the studio, the lessons, the style, the confidence, all of that… will always be with you no matter where you are!

Coach Mick coaches the 11 am and 12 pm Tiny Turtles classes!

Coach Nico

Coach Imagine-M

Hi, my name is Marli, though I am also known as Coach Imagine-M. I’m in my senior year of high school and excited for what’s to come. I have been breaking for about 8-9 years. I have several hobbies, too many to count, but some of them are photography, winter guard, marching band, and dance in general. I break because of the community and just how fun it is to be with the people. The ability to show off your moves and how you steadily improve, as well as how it gives people confidence.

Coach Imagine-M coaches the Team Turtle sessions on Wednesdays!
